Dr. Nicole Mirkin

Forensic Psychologist Providing Strategic Consultation and Coaching in High-Conflict Family Systems

Dr. Mirkin holds a doctorate in psychology and master’s degrees in Marriage and Family Therapy and School Counseling. With 16 years of professional experience, her work spans private practice, academic settings, and court-appointed forensic evaluation in family court and child welfare cases across multiple jurisdictions.

For over a decade, Dr. Mirkin served as a court-appointed forensic evaluator in high-conflict custody cases and collaborated with child protective services agencies (CPS/DCFS) on juvenile dependency matters. Her assessments included mental health and parenting capacity evaluations, best-interest determinations, attachment and bonding, co-parenting dynamics, and allegations of domestic violence, child abuse and neglect, and alienation. She also provided expert witness testimony in family and juvenile court proceedings.

Earlier in her career, Dr. Mirkin conducted psychoeducational assessments and counseling in academic settings, developing expertise in child development, learning and emotional disorders, and family–school system dynamics.

Her background has given her direct insight into the psychological and systemic factors that shape custody and child welfare outcomes, which she now applies through specialized consultation and coaching. Her guidance helps clients understand how their behavior and service participation are interpreted in court and what changes are necessary to demonstrate sustained, meaningful progress toward more favorable outcomes. She also consults with attorneys and mental health providers on case strategy, intervention planning, and progress coordination.

Through her writing project, Psychologist Interrupted, Dr. Mirkin explores professional identity, institutional systems, and personal rebuilding at the intersection of professional life, personal experience, and the systems that shape both.
